EVENT:
6th ANNUAL CRUISIN'
FOR A CURE
OC Fairgrounds, Sept. 24, 2005
Bigger
and Better, What a GREAT Show.
The Cruisin' for a Cure show is in my opinion the best show
in Orange County, arguably the birth of Car-Shows. In just
6 short years this show has grown to well over 2000 cars
and among them the top show cars of the western US. This
is a show and a cruise. The participants are able to jump
in their cars and cruise through the fairgrounds snaking
their way around the entire show. From the grasslands on
the west end to the asphalt plains on the east. It is about
a 1.5 mile ribbon that keeps the show alive all day long.
Blown Big Block pavement pounders rattle the chests of the
spectators while the smell of alcohol and nitrous waft through
the air intoxicating our senses.
This
year I brought the 56 with my buddy Dave from Chevy High
Performance magazine to cruise through the show. Our mission
is to find the story within the story of this show.
I
spoke with several of the participants and many who I have
met at other shows and they always say how great Debbie
Baker and her people are that put on this show. Highly professional,
extremely focused and very friendly. Their work pays off
each year in September as the show begins to take place.
A one-day event that could easily fill a three-day weekend.
There are some suggestions of class areas. For example in
the asphalt plains there are markers for Corvettes, Vipers,
Mustangs, and the like. But, mostly throughout the fairgrounds
you will see radical customs next to a vintage racer, next
to a modern truck and so-on.
On this
page we see a cool little fur-lined custom and a restored
T while looking pretty nostalgic, I noticed the skull shifter
to give it a bit of a personality.
