FEATURED
EVENT:
Cops & Rodders 2005
Saturday
July 16th 2005.
continued...
There
were plenty of things to keep the children busy. There a
bounce house and a "dunk a cop" tank
that
if you were a child and could not dunk them with a softball,
you were allowed to just go up and push the button
.
lots of laughs from the little ones. There was also a playground
in which the little ones could play without worrying about
"touching" a hot rod. One of our little ones was
escorted back to camp by an officer in blue, because after
spinning on a ride in the playground for about an hour he
decided to throw up 4 times.
The raffle stuff was plentiful, though for the first time
I didnt win anything. But plenty of people did, as
there was $14,000 in donated raffle prizes to be had. The
50/50 raffle netted someone else $146.00.
This
event also had a contest called "Gravity Drags"
where they ran a competition between cars rolling down a
hill with their engines off. I wonder if this is what started
the "Soap Box Derby" craze?
There
were plenty of awards for the various classes of cars. I
lost track of how many divisions there were, must a been
about a hundred, many people walked away with plaques, even
someone I know who was out of town on business and asked
me to take her car, won 2nd place in the Chevy Division
for her 64 Impala that I drove in for her.
All
in all this is an excellent event for the FUN of it, and
the money raised benefits local Schools and Youth Programs.
The day starts early, but by 3:00pm most people were well
on their way home, and because it was a Saturday event,
it didnt kill a weekend. I highly recommend this event.
Ill
see yall at the next event down the road, whether
its Hot Rods or Harleys.
