Carson
Gardena Rotary Car-Show
Normandie Casino, Gardena, CA July
9th
Hot
Chili and Cool Cars.
The smell of over 2 dozen chili pots wafted the air as you
stroll between the cars in the Normandie Casino parking
lot. I met with several members of the popular Carson/Gardena
Rotary club who informed me of the great services they offer
the community and that this was the first car-show they
were doing as a fundraiser to continue. I met with President,
Sheri Repp-Loadsman as we headed for the bounce-house for
her son. She told me of the humanitarian, educational and
cultural programs the Rotarians are responsible for.
This
was a great car-show, not in the amount of cars, but in
all the activities at hand. It wasn't one of those, bring
your car, find some shade, and hang out for 6 hours shows.
The pie eating contest was underway when I arrived and apparently
the winner has a big appetite, he won both the hot dog eating
and pie eating contest. The Chili Cook-off was huge with
over 2 dozen pots with thick, thin, chunky and always very
flavorful chilis. I had a taste of one with big chunks of
steak in it. Not too spicy and very good. Big hand out to
Lee Ayers who organized the chili cook-off with his band
of volunteers.
Immediate
Past President Robert Stirrat headed up this event recruiting
classic car enthusiasts. I shook his hand and we talked
abit more about the move to the Normandie Casino, who have
been really great hosts.
Lastly
I spoke with a gentleman who had me hop up on his trailer
to describe the Stanley Steamer he brought to the car-show.
He is getting it ready for the big race in Daytona later
this year. Check out the pics of the chassis on page 05.
