Shop Tour Continued: Page Seven
Fat Fendered Street Rods

I had to quickly navigate my way around Riverside to hit the 91-210-10 freeway to get to Fat Fendered Street Rods on-time at 1:30pm. Fat Fendered Street Rods is just behind turn three at California Speedway in Fontana. I get to their gated compound on time and find that no-one is there. I call the number and they are still at lunch and will be another half-hour. So I go get a bite at an old burger joint on Cherry Ave. They had t-shirts framed from their monthly car show. I ask the lady behind the counter when the shows are and she said they haven't had a show for almost 20 years. The shirts looked like they were printed yesterday. Boy this industry doesn't change much over time.

I get back to Fat Fendered by 2:00 for our new appointment and they are still not back. I wait another 15 minutes and they show up open the gate and disappeared into a building and a garage. I don't even know where the front door is to this place so I start pokin' around. Van finally meets me and I explain what I am doing, and I can tell he didn't want to be "bothered" by this. He shows me around a bit and then takes a phone call and disappears again without saying anything. I hang for a minute and thought to my self. I don't want to be late for So-Cal Speedshop and this guy is wasting my time so I took off.

Van's wish list for the year is to get out of this business.

Good luck with that.
