Sledsville
Some
might say it wasn't the best day to be out
on a bike, but I needed to get some saddle
time on my Harley. The day was crystal
clear, and after the storms had dumped a
bunch of snow on Mt. Baldy and Big Bear,
the Inland Empire was a nice ride. Just
stay clear of the flooded streets. So I
roll up to Sledsville in Riverside. As I
turn up the street, it turns to mud. The
paved road ends and a compact clay mud residential
road with plenty of mud holes to navigate
around. I asked the mail lady where
Sledsville is. She replied just around the
corner and in back of the last house on
the left.
"Be careful they have dogs."
She warned.
Mail carriers and dogs? I thought it was
just a myth, but they really are scared.
I
get around to the back and Larry, the shop
manager meets me and we go to the office.
They are pouring a new slab of concrete
to add to their shop. This seems like a
pretty cool set-up. Behind the modest house
there is this 5000 square foot shop and
office and they are adding another 1000
square feet and they have about 2000 square
feet of covered slabbed shop area in front
of the building. On about an acre or two
lot there are 30 plus cars waiting to
get the treatment. The Sledsville Treatment.
This is another "Traditional"
hot rod shop. Jimmy started showing me around
the shop and some of the cool rides they
are working on. There is a cherry green
Merc with traditional fades on the body
lines. It is in the process of being painted,
green body with silver flames and on the
chopped lid, silver metalflake with green
flames. They always paint their engines
to match the body.
Other
rides are scattered about in various moments
of build and he even had a 40 something
Harley he built out of all NEW parts. Not
that it really matters where a shop is,
but if I spent more time in the Inland Empire,
Jimmy would build my rod. Keep an
ear open for their name. I am sure we will
be hearing a lot more about Sledsville.
