Limeworks Speed Shop

Up the road a piece in Whittier is Limeworks Speed Shop. You may recognize the Brit, Steve Dennish from the Monster Garage episode where they built the FireLimo. In-fact, the name Limeworks is a play off of Steve's heritage. Steve is another one of those genuine guys whom you can tell really dig buildin' rods. His small shop was covered with rods, customs, a gasser and even an 1920 something Rolls Royce. The gasser is a real race car from the 50's with a patina'd dark green paint. Recently he had the lettering restored on top of the faded cracked paint. He gave us a sneak peak at his 32 roadster he is finishing with a British Hemi. I really expected the wheel to be on the right. That would have been really cool. Limeworks builds Traditional Style rods and customs. As we are just getting around the shop, we noticed all the guys kinda disappeared behind a door. And Steve excuses himself for tea. Yep, it's three o'clock and you don't want to mess with Tea Time. In the mean-time we are hangin' out in the store out front checkin' out the hot rod columns and nostalgic parts they sell. Then I noticed a rack of Kugel Komponents. Steve used to work for Kugel before he started his own shop. The expert level of detail and precision we saw at Kugel is repeated here in this small shop.

After the break we hung out in his office as we rapped about the industry and where it is going. He is looking to increase their product line of Columns, Interior mirror stands, 40 Ford Steering Wheels and the such. When asked about his challenges he replies that he is lucky to have a great resource of colleagues and vendors that he can rely on.

If you are looking to build a rod with a Traditional Nostalgic Style, you got to check out Limeworks Speed Shop.

So that is here in the OC and part of LA County. What about the Inland Empire? Great shops like So-Cal Speedshop call the 909 home. On the first break from the rain, I took my bike out to Riverside to visit Sledsville. I read about Jimmy Ruiz in Rod & Custom magazine. There was an article about installing 'aftermarket' DeSoto Grill Teeth in a 50 Merc.

Here is a great shot of the work shop. The three window coupe is a client car with a Fiberglass body.
The fiberglass bodies that Limeworks uses come from Australia and are first generation from a steel body mold. Note the detail in the body lines.
Here is an interior shot.
