Protect
All DOES IT ALL!
Tony Colombini
We've
all been there. A Car-Show on a bright summer day,
either in Historic downtown or at the Community
Park. Chrome, Paint, Rubber, Glass, SOUL. The cars
are displayed with such pride that you feel the
soul of the person who put their sweat in such magnificent
hardware.
Well,
I was there. I was putting another shine on my '56
with the usual "enter family name here'"
spray on detailer and noticed how much build-up
I was getting. "The car hasn't seen a hose
since it was painted," said the previous owner.
Not to break with tradition, I am holding strong
with the "no-hose" ethic. So I aptly apply
a squirt here and there. And streaks were all I
got. The next day, frustrated, swearing not to hose
down the car and clean it with a good solvent, when
I remembered this blue can that I picked up at the
Harley dealer.
I
sprayed a small amount (nervously) on the caked-up
hood and wiped it with a micro-fiber towel and the
deep black shone through immediately. Protect All
is one of those products, which claims to do everything.
I don't usually get suckered into those deals, but
the vision of the Harley dealer, spraying it on
my bike, when I picked it up gave me a bit of re-assurance.
This product works GREAT! Not only does it have
carnauba wax which gives it a remarkable
shine and smoothness it has a cleaner, which
safely removed all the build-up on my whip. My boy
and I use it religiously on our '53 F-100, '56 Fairlane
and our '04 Harleys. It cleans and polishes EVERY
surface, leather bags, rubber tires, chrome bumpers,
painted body panels, aluminum, and even glass! We
have been using it for almost a year and there is
no build-up because each application cleans the
layer beneath.
I
called the factory which makes Protect All and found
it to be a small shop close-by in Anaheim, CA. With
a brief tour, Ken Neuman, VP Sales & Marketing,
told me a bit more about some of their other products.
Protect All came from modest beginnings as an idea
that Adam Huber had at his first company Pacific
Petrochem. Adam and his partner sold the company
to Valvoline where he stayed on to manage the Specialty
Products Division. In 1976 he bought the SPD from
Valvoline and founded Champions Choice, Inc. One
of the company's largest markets has been the motorcycle
industry. Pleasure rides and racers, alike have
experienced the quality of Champions Choice lubricants
and ProtectAll care products for more than 40 years.
After
the tour Ken showed me some of the other products
that they make. An all purpose household cleaner
(Protect All Shine Plus), a concentrated wash product
(Quick & Easy Wash) which you do not have to
rinse. He told me that all you have to do is add
two capfuls to each gallon of water and wring out
a cloth or sponge in the bucket wipe the car or
bike, and follow-it up with a dry towel. No pre-rinse
or rinsing needed. We used it on our bikes and it
gets all the road grunge off effortlessly. They
even make a small knife sharpener (Quick & Easy
Knife Sharpener). Like all of their products each
one is made with the best materials to last a long-long
time.
"It
may be more expensive for a bottle of Protect All,
(we bought ours for $10.00 a spray can at the Harley
dealer) but you only need to use a little bit"
says Ken. In fact he told me a story about a guy
who called their hotline and said the product wasn't
coming off his car. He rubbed vigorously with a
towel that got soaked with the product. In amazement,
Ken had him go step by step into how he applied
it and the guy said: "I unscrewed the trigger
cap and poured about half a bottle on my hood
"
Ken realized right there that people don't like
to read the instructions. "Only spray a light
mist across a body panel at a 45€ angle. Gently
wipe with one micro-fiber cloth and follow-up with
a clean micro-fiber cloth to make it shine."
Quality,
Integrity, Trust and Fairness is the command at
Protect All. If you don't like the product, simply
call their hotline, ask for Ken, or any of the other
friendly staff and they will help you with it, even
if it means sending you your money back.
